DK Daya-Shakti Tigers Cricket Club - Lenasia

Children from less privileged homes who cannot afford to play cricket due to the high cost attached to the sport, receive a golden opportunity of playing cricket through the Shakti Tigers Cricket club. These youngsters start playing cricket from a tender age of 6 years until adulthood.

The children receive kits, sporting equipment, transport, prizes during competitions and catering through a sponsorship by Goldrush.

“As an organisation we are very passionate about identifying and developing sports talent with the aim that that these children may realise their dreams, and become future sportsman who will grow to be world champions”, says Mergan Naidoo, Goldrush CEO.

These children are afforded an opportunity to play in tournaments such as the Lenasia Premier League (LPL). This gives them a chance to expose their talent on a broader stage; and may result in being scouted by bigger clubs and agents.

The LPL is run by a dedicated team of volunteers who donate their time and services to assist in keeping the operational costs low. The funds raised through the LPL are used towards the development of cricket within the greater Johannesburg Community.
